Crystal River Cruises – Crystal Mahler
After a flight to Luxembourg and a short transfer we arrived in Mehring where the Crystal Mahler was docked for an overnight stay.
We were met with Champagne and taken to our cabin straight away and from here we were checked in and given our suite keys, one each used to enter our suite and to get on and off the boat.
Our suite was located on deck 2, beautifully appointed, state of the art and very spacious. Full floor length windows which electronically opened giving you a panoramic view of the stunning Moselle river. All of the cabin amenities you could wish for are thought of, walk in wardrobe, marble bathroom with underfloor heating, beautifully comfortable beds, coffee maker, TV, minibar and iPad. A lovely touch was a welcome aboard bottle of Fizz and a couple of bottles of delicious wine, just the ticket when sat watching the world go by from your cabin.
While getting settled in our cabin we met both our suite attendant and our butler, who are there 24-7 for any of your wants or needs, both were really friendly and throughout the cruise looked after us superbly.
Over the next few days we sailed smoothly & quietly along the Moselle visiting Trier, Cochem and Andernach. We took up on many of the complimentary excursions. Daily we were left a schedule of daily activities on and off the boat to help decide our plan for the day. As well as excursions there were also guest speakers who held lectures on everything from History to Art, Cocktail Making classes and a behind the scene tour through the boat’s galley kitchens.
Although we didn’t use them as we were so busy, they do have a gorgeous spa, fitness area and pool. We did however spend a few hours on the top deck watching the stunning German countryside roll by with a G&T in hand, here you’ll find plenty of relaxing places to sunbathe or sit.
Most nights we ate in the main Waterside Restaurant, you can choose what time you want to dine and where you’d like to sit. We also took up on a special dining evening in the Bistro and had a fabulous tapas night. You can eat pretty much anytime of the day, breakfast, lunch and dinner was served in the Waterside restaurant, with late breakfast and lunch at Bistro Mahler. As an added plus they also have The Pantry, 24-hour, self-service venue offering specialty coffees, teas, wines and non-alcoholic beverages
